New Year, New You, New Job?

New Year, New You, New Job?

It’s that time of year, when you are evaluating life, health, work, relationships and everything in between. It’s also that time of year where you can really take control of where you want to be in life.

Here are some of our tips for the New Year:

1. Look at what currently makes you happy and what makes you unhappy

A list is always a good start. By defining the things that excite you, fulfil you and empower you – you will be able to refocus on what truly makes you happy. It really is as simple as do more of what makes you happy and eliminate, change or minimise the things that make you unhappy.

2. Set ‘SMART’ goals for the year and for life.

S-SPECIFIC
M-MEASURABLE
A-ACHIEVABLE
R-REALISTIC
T-TIMED

By being VERY specific with your goals, you are able to clarify what exactly it is that you want.
Most people will say “I just want to be happy”, buy what does happy mean to you? Define it!

“I want to have a date night with my husband once a month, somewhere exciting like a rock climbing centre – this in turn will create fun and excitement, which in turn makes me happy”.

3. Now that you know exactly what you want – GO AND GET IT!

Procrastination is just a bad habit. If you want changes in your life, you need to be proactive and do it now. You need to work on being proactive every day and on every decision, until you change the “I’ll do it later” , “I need to do this..before I can do that”, pattern.

If a new job was on your list for this year, let’s make sure that you have the best chance of landing it. Look at the industry you want to be in, the type of company that you would like to work in and the type of role that you would ideally like to get in to.

If you are applying for new roles, don’t forget to ensure that your resume is professionally formatted. Your resume is the first indirect contact that you will have with your potential employer, so you want to make sure that it is professional and really highlights your education and experience in the best light.

All the best for 2016,

Lots of Love from the team at Perth Resume
